Flood Alert: Residents of Three Oyo LGAs Warned to Take Precautions.

The Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYOSEMA) has issued a flash flood alert for residents of Ibadan, particularly those living in Akinyele, Egbeda, and Oluyole Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The agency is urging residents in these areas to take proactive measures to mitigate the impact of potential flooding.

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, SEMA’s Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Ojuolape Busari, said the Flood Early Warning System’s latest weather forecast indicates heavy rainfall is expected in the affected LGAs.

Mrs. Busari, who noted that the agency works hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Environment and Natural resources, advised that some areas could receive over 100mm (about 4 inches) of rain in the next 24 hours.

Mrs. Busari highlighted that the heaviest rainfall is expected North-East of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the airport.

Her words, “The advice has become imperative to activate the concerned Local Government Authorities and communities to take necessary actions to mitigate the risk of flooding and avoid loss of lives, displacement, and significant damage to property and infrastructure.

She added that areas around IITA (Akinyele), the airport (Egbeda), and the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN, Oluyole) will experience significant rainfall.

She warned residents that flash floods could affect streets, with low-lying areas flooding rapidly.

Mrs. Busari also added that roads may become difficult or impossible to use, stressing that heavy rain will make driving hazardous.

She advised residents to avoid driving or walking through floodwaters.

“Turn around, don’t drown”, she said.

Busari added, “If you live in a flood-prone area, be prepared to move to higher ground if instructed.

 2027: Mark’s ADC plots Atiku’s candidacy – Kachikwu

The African Democratic Congress 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, said the faction of the party led by former Senate President David Mark was deliberately structured to produce former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the 2027 presidential flag bearer.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Kachikwu said the group told him during their meeting that their main interest was reclaiming power.

He dared the coalition leaders to prove him wrong by publicly declaring that the 2027 presidential ticket would be zoned to the South.

Dumebi stated, “it’s a coalition that has been designed and engineered to produce Atiku Abubakar as its flag bearer, and that is an absolute truth.”President Tinubu’s government has posted a blend of successes and setbacks across different sectors, yet opposition politicians from multiple parties still dismiss the All ProgressivesCongress-led administration as a failure.

To forge a stronger front for the 2027 elections, prominent opposition figures announced a fresh political coalition in Abuja on 20 March, a move that triggered national debate over the prospects of a united opposition.

Following prolonged negotiations, Labour Party flag-bearer Peter Obi, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi and others converged in Abuja on Wednesday to present the ADC as the coalition’s platform.Although most of these political heavyweights have yet to take up formal ADC membership, they publicly pledged loyalty to the party, which is now under interim leadership—David Mark as national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary—after Ralph Nwosu and others stepped down.

In a swift reaction, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, issued a statement on Wednesday accusing Atiku, Obi and their allies of hijacking the party and lacking the capacity to lead it.Narrating his encounter with the coalition leaders, he stated, “Late last year they approached me concerning this coalition. Eventually, early this year, I agreed to have a meeting with them; a close friend of mine persuaded me to go for a meeting and hear these people out.

“I went for this meeting that had former ministers, former highly placed person in the last the last government, and they presented their case to me: the need for a coalition. Everything they said was about Bola Ahmed Tinubu and how his government has destroyed Nigeria.

“But I had only one question, because in opposition, you have only one ambition: for you to be the ruling party. So, for us as a party, our plan is how, in the next election, we can win the elections, or we can ensure that we have more people from the party emerge in various offices across the country.

“So, if somebody wants to speak about coalition and how to achieve this, we are willing to listen.

Dumebi urged the Mark-led ADC to promptly clarify the party’s stance on the power rotation between the South and the North. The ADC 2023 candidate continued, “But I had one question, and my question was this: seeing that we just finished eight years of President Buhari and that President Tinubu is in his first term, and that you people here, you old politicians that practice a politics of north and south, of regions, do you agree and accept that, if there is a coalition, the south is in its first term and that the south will produce the flag bearer of this coalition? And the response—not considered, immediate response—was, We are taking our power back.

“Now imagine my situation as someone who was the presidential flag bearer of a party that came fifth in the last elections. You are saying to me that I cannot aspire to office, that I should foreclose my ambition, that because I happen to be from the south of Nigeria and that there is a presumed majority from the north of Nigeria, that you will take your power back.

“So that’s a question for me, and that was an absolute no-no for me, and that ended every talk about coalition, because it was very clear that the coalition was engineered to produce Atiku Abubakar as its flag bearer.

“Now, I still say this today: I’m throwing this challenge to this coalition today, to make a pronouncement today that the flag bearer of this coalition will be someone from the southern part of Nigeria so that the second term of the southerners will be finished. Make that statement a categorical statement and we’ll admit you through the front door and say that there is a conversation to be had.

Ooni Lúwòó Gbàgìdá was the 18th Ooni. She was a paramount ruler of Ile Ife, the ancestral home and dispersal point of Yoruba ruling dynasties and civilization. She was a descendant of Ooni Otaataa the 15th Ooni from Owode compound, Okerewe.

According to an oral traditions from Ife, it was under Luwoo that much of the inner streets of Ife was tiled and paved with potsherd pavements, hence why these pavements are called ‘Apaadi Luwoo’ in Ife. According to the story, she was a queen very concerned about detail and cleanliness. During Ife’s classical period of development, she went out on an official royal outing in full regalia one day in the rainy season and her robes and coral accessories became soiled with mud and dirt with her feet getting stuck in it. Because she was a fastidious queen, this made her order the paving of all the most important roads in the ancient town.

The occurrence of potsherd pavements in virtually every part of the area within the Inner to Outer Walls of ife and beyond indicate that the city was densely populated. It is estimated that the city of Ilé-Ifè had a population of 70,000–105,000 during the mid-fourteenth century.

Luwoo was married to one of the high chief of Ife known as Obaloran and gave birth to a son named Adekola Telu who went on to found the Yoruba town if Iwo. She was the first and the only female paramount ruler of Ile-ife known to be the origin of Yoruba civilization, succeeding Ooni Giesi. Ooni Luwoo’s reign remains the only one by a female in Ife to date. Archaeological work is still being carried out in Ife and surroundings till today to find out more about the size and extent of ‘Apaadi Luwo’ and the legacies of this charismatic Oba.

In Yoruba history, several kingdoms are recorded to have had female Obas, including but not limited to; Ife, Ondo, Ijebu, Oyo.

The CITY BOY.

Bola Ahmed Adekunle TinubuGCFR (born 29 March 1952) is a Nigerian politician who is the 16th and current president of Nigeria.[1] He was the governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007; and senator for Lagos West in the Third Republic.

Tinubu spent his early life in southwestern Nigeria and later moved to the United States where he studied Accounting at Chicago State University. He returned to Nigeria in the early 1990s and was employed by Mobil Nigeria as an accountant, before entering politics as a Lagos West senatorial candidate in 1992 under the banner of the Social Democratic Party. After dictator Sani Abacha dissolved the Senate in 1993, Tinubu became an activist campaigning for the return of democracy as a part of the National Democratic Coalition movement.

In the first post-transition Lagos State gubernatorial election, Tinubu won by a wide margin as a member of the Alliance for Democracy. Four years later, he won re-election to a second term. After leaving office in 2007, he played a key role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress in 2013. In 2023, he was elected president of Nigeria.

Background
Tinubu was born in Lagos into the merchant family of Abibatu Mogaji, the Ìyál’ọ́jà of Lagos. He is generally accepted in reliable sources to have been born in 1952;[2] this year of birth is sometimes disputed by political opponents, who argue that he is much older. Some reliable sources note that his age has not been verified.[3][4]

Education
Tinubu attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos before proceeding to Children Home School in Ibadan.[5] He completed undergraduate studies in the United States, first at Richard J. Daley College in Chicago and then at Chicago State University. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.[6]

Professional career
Tinubu worked for the American companies Arthur Andersen, Deloitte and GTE Services Corporation.[7] After returning to Nigeria in 1983, he joined Mobil Oil Nigeria, and later became a company executive.[8]

dealing. He settled with the U.S. government and forfeited about $460,000 later that year. Court documents and later reporting on the case suggested he worked in league with two Chicago heroin dealers.[55][56][57]

In April 2007, after the general elections, but before the governor-elect Babatunde Fashola had taken office, the Federal Government brought Tinubu before the Code of Conduct Bureau for trial over the alleged illegal operation of 16 separate foreign accounts.[58]

In January 2009, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission cleared Tinubu and governors James Ibori of Delta State and Obong Victor Attah of Akwa Ibom State of charges of conspiracy, money laundering, abuse of office and official corruption in relation to a sale of Vmobile network shares in 2004.[59] In September 2009, there were reports that the British Metropolitan Police were investigating a transaction in which the Lagos State government made an investment in Econet (now Airtel). Tinubu said the transaction was straightforward and profitable to the state, with no intermediaries involved.[60] The Federal Government rejected a request by Britain to release evidence needed for further investigation and prosecution of the three Nigerian ex-governors in a London court.[61]

During the 2019 election, a bullion van was seen entering Tinubu’s residence on Bourdillion Road in Ikoyi, which caused him to later exclaim: “I keep money anywhere I want.”[62]

Personal life
Tinubu married Oluremi Tinubu, who is a former senator representing the Lagos Central senatorial district, in 1987. They have 3 children, Zainab Abisola Tinubu, Habibat Tinubu and Olayinka Tinubu.[63][64] He fathered 3 children from previous relationships, Kazeem Olajide Tinubu (12 October 1974 – 31 October 2017), Folashade Tinubu (born 17 June 1976) and Oluwaseyi Tinubu (born 13 October 1985), whose mother is rumoured to be the former air hostess and prophetess Bunmi Oshonike.[65][66]

Tinubu’s mother, Abibatu Mogaji, died on 15 June 2013 at the age of 96.[67] On 31 October 2017, his son, Jide Tinubu, died in London.[68] Tinubu is a Muslim.[69]
